This Girl Can VS Victoria's Secret

The 'This Girl Can' campaign aims to break gender stereotypes and also make women feel comfortable with their bodies. The video shows a variety of women from different countries and cultures taking part of many sports; enjoying themselves. Some of these women belong to a team and others are taking part in weekly classes. It allows women to realise that they do not have to live up to the typical gender stereotype of women and it also shows how determined and successful women can be. It is used to inspire all females who do not take part in sport because they think that sport is only for those who are good at it. The video makes women feel better about their body shape as it shows women enjoying themselves while doing exercise.

The Victoria's Secret video is promoting their 2015 Fashion Show which is where the Victoria's Secret Angels walk down a runway in lingerie in front of a live audience. The models are shown in their underwear looking seductively into the camera. All of the models they use are very slim with what society would call the 'perfect figure'. This perfect figure that many girls/women wish to have is hard to achieve as it is an unnatural weight goal. Although many people aspire to be the same size as these women, it is unrealistic to achieve such perfection without going through surgery and a ton of make up.

The difference between these two videos is that the This Girl Can campaign is aiming to make women feel better about their bodies whereas the Victoria's Secret video is women showing off their bodies. However, the Victoria's Secret video is not body shaping anyone on purpose, but it grabs the attention of nearly all females and males. This Girl Can boosts the confidence of working age women and above but the Victoria's Secret campaign unintentionally decreases the confidence of younger people as they aspire to look like the models however it is very hard to achieve that goal.
